Bake Off fever returns to Woking!

20 August 2015

In its third year, the ‘Woking Shopping Bake Off’ competition returns to the Woking Food and Drink Festival, bigger and better than before and with addition of a junior bake off category.

Eager bakers will be required to bake their best sponge cake in a bid to win the title of Woking’s Best Baker along with a cookery class at Woking’s very own Tante Marie Culinary Academy and a signed copy of John Whaite ‘Bakes at Home’.

The competition will be judged by 2012 Great British Bake Off winner John Whaite and announced by the man himself on Sunday 6 September at 16.45 in the Tante Marie Culinary Academy Theatre in Jubilee Square.

To enter, bakers are required to drop off their cakes at ChristChurch, in Jubilee Square, between 12.45pm and 2pm ready to be judged on Sunday 6 September. The two categories include a junior bake off competition for those who’re under 16 years old and the adult bake off for those 16 and over.

Full details regarding entry requirements can be found on the Bake Off webpage along with an online registration form and competition terms and conditions.

Last year Rachel Wynn’s Lemon and Marzipan sponge scooped the title along with £250 worth of vouchers to spend with Woking Shopping retailers and a signed copy of the Great British Bake Off cookbook by 2013 Great British Bake Off winner Francis Quinn.

Rowen De Grauw, Customer Experience Manager at Woking Shopping said: “The competition to crown Woking’s best baker continues to heat up and this year we’re expecting more entries than ever before, especially with the addition of the junior bake off competition. Those keen to win the prestigious title and the fantastic prizes should register their interest on the Woking Food and Drink Festival website and get baking.”

John Whaite, 2012 Great British Bake Off winner and Woking Bake Off judge said: “I’m really looking forward to judging the great cakes of Woking and meeting Woking’s best bakers. Woking Food and Drink festival will be a great day out for the whole family and the bake off is just one of the day’s fantastic activities.”

There are plenty of opportunities to see John Whaite at the festival as he will also be doing a book signing within Woking Shopping at 1.15pm between H&M and Waterstones, there will also be opportunities to watch him prepare two amazing dishes in the Tante Marie Culinary Academy Theatre in Jubilee Square.
