New Woking Food and Drink Festival app available to download now

23 August 2019

If you want to be first in line when Meat Street BBQ’s Texan pulled beef chili goes on sale, or front row for the honey scone demo by GBBO star baker, Martha Collison, download the free Woking Food and Drink Festival app, available now from the App Store or Google Play.

New for 2019, you can use the app to see what talks and demonstrations are about to start, cut through the crowds with the festival map, filter and select stallholder information, and have fun using your device to hunt down the town’s hidden treasures.

The app has been developed by Aligned Assets, a Sheerwater based business and leading provider of address management and augmented reality (AR) solutions in the UK.

Co-owner and Managing Director of Aligned Assets, Andy Hird, said: “Apps drive deeper engagement with events because they help users to find the content that interests them more easily, enabling them to see and do more whilst they’re there.

“When we attended last year’s food and drink festival, we immediately saw how our AR application could be used to enhance people’s experience. The app we have developed for the festival brings the event schedule to life, providing users with real-time what’s on information. It also shows a map of the festival helping users to pinpoint their whereabouts for easy navigation. Fans of Pokemon Go and other location based games will love the AR treasure hunt we’ve created to inject a bit of fun whilst encouraging people to visit all corners of the festival. Using image recognition technology, users will be able to scan their location with their phone to reveal augmented reality treasure on the real-life view on their phones.

“We’re really hoping both festival goers and stallholders enjoy the added dimension the app will bring to their experience, while the festival itself enjoys being showcased as being on the cutting-edge of technology.”

Food festival organiser, Riette Thomas, Celebrate Woking Manager at Woking Borough Council, said: “The festival is growing, not just in popularity but in terms of the live entertainment programme and array of exhibitors. The choice is overwhelming so we hope the introduction of an app will make it easier for visitors to decide what it is they want to get from their time at Woking’s award-winning food and drink festival.

“We know from our experience of delivering other events that you get the best results by working with local people. We’re really excited to be working with Aligned Assets and exploring the capabilities of their AR product.

“With free wifi in the town centre, there really is no better way to navigate all that the festival has to offer. You can download the app now to start planning your day.”
