Bite-size talk: 1.40pm to 2pm, Saturday 31 August 2019
Location: Surrey Life Bite-size Talks Tent, Gloucester Square
Talk title: A life less plastic
Summary: How to make easy household switches to reduce your daily use of plastic. Mel and Victoria Clunis (founder of Refill and Refuel) will cover some of the current statistics on plastic use and its impact on the planet.
Local mum-of-three Mel Hemmings is on a mission to inspire and enable the people of Woking to cut their plastic use, reduce their waste and live more sustainably.
Her own 'zero waste' journey started last year after attending a talk on sustainable living at the WWF Living Planet Centre. Learning that how we live our lives at home has a colossal environmental impact, Mel set out to reduce her family of five’s household waste and carbon footprint.
She started an Instagram feed @waste_less_woking sharing their journey, and quickly gained a large local following. Seeing there was a lot of local interest, and inspired by the ‘Zero Waste’ movement, Mel launched Bare + Fair in Feb 2019.
With a focus on low waste, plastic free and locally sourced products, it provides refills of eco-friendly household cleaners, hair and body care products, as well as sustainable homewares and personal care products.
Mel is passionate about inspiring everyone to take their next sustainable step, and enjoys speaking at local schools and community groups about all things 'zero waste'.
