Chetna Makan
Demo: Saturday 2 September, 3pm
Chetna Makan, a food writer whose first book 'The Cardamom Trail', published in 2016, is all about traditional bakes with Indian flavours and baking with spices. It is full of sweet and savoury bakes from recipes like rose and honey cake to a paneer pie.
Her second book 'Chai, Chaat & Chutney' is out on 13 July 2017. Proving that she is more than just a baker, Chetna Makan has travelled to the four corners of India – Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Chennai – sampling the varieties of street food on offer. Each area has subtle differences in ingredients and techniques, making the local cuisine completely unique and full of character.
In Chai, Chaat & Chutney, Chetna has taken inspiration from the street and created delicious recipes that are simple to cook at home. The result is a completely fresh take on Indian cuisine – try tamarind stuffed chillis and sticky Bombay chicken from the South or let your senses venture to the North for pani puri and cardamom and pistachio kulfi.
She was part of 'The Great British Bake Off' in 2014 and won 'The Christmas Bake Off' in 2016.
She has a very popular YouTube channel called 'Food with Chetna' where she shares amazingly delicious cakes and lot of great Indian food, with a new recipe out every week.
